As most of you know, the new Jerome Corsi book Obama Nation is at the top of the New York Time's Best Sellers List. Corsi also wrote the book Unfit for Command attacking John Kerry's military service, which ultimately helped to sink his candidacy. I echo the sentiment of mobilio316 from June and rapcetera from today when i say, Barack Obama will not be swiftboated.
As a candidate for congress, I have watched the Obama campaign closely these last few months eager to learn from the masters. One thing I have noticed is that the campaign's decisions reflect the lessons learned from candidacies past. The lesson of keeping tight control over photographs and videos coming out of the campaign was learned from the Dukakis tank debacle and the Mondale convention promise to raise taxes. The rapid response to attacks learned from the Kerry candidacy. And the attacking of opposition authors and books learned from the successful strategies of the Bill Clinton campaign. So yesterday, the Obama campaign released a 40+ page rebuttal aptly titled "Unfit for Publication" to Corsi's Obama Nation. Further, Mark Halperin of The Page reports that, "The campaign also plans to dig into the author’s past statements, increase surrogate action against the book, and step up pressure on high-level media executives for equal time to rebut charges." To reiterate my statement above, Barack Obama will not be swift boated.
John Kerry chose to take what I like to call the "heavenly road" in 2004. This is a road above the high road. A road which ultimately led to finishing second in the 2004 election. The heavenly road is paved with good intentions. It leads to a candidacy that chooses to ignore and avoid rather than confront and crush. It is a road that is covered with ideals and pride, but one that is quickly dismantled by the ruthless attacks of republican politics. This heavenly road led John Kerry to ignore and dismiss the claims of Jerome Corsi's book, but not to attack and debunk them, which led to 4 more years of Bushisms. Barack Obama is not John Kerry and 2008 is not 2004. This year, the Democratic Presidential Candidate will not be swiftboated.
Admittedly, I have shared the concern of some in democratic circles that Obama has not been hitting the McCain camp hard enough. What with Phil Gramm, the adultery, the flip-flopping, the voting record and the outright lies, there seems to be so much to work with. But just this week, we have seen a slew of Obama ads, attack and otherwise, and the Corsi book response. The actions of the Obama campaign this week have reassured me and helped to ease my concerns. I have the utmost faith in my candidate and will be honored to serve under him should I win my election in Florida's 10 district.
