For the few that care... Denver Police can arrest you for NOT breaking the Law
Today, the Denver Police Department released their pamphlet explaining the department’s protester policy.
A pamphlet tells protesters they can be arrested if they refuse an order to disperse, even if they aren't breaking any law. Other grounds for arrest include blocking streets, sidewalks or parades and disrupting public assemblies.
Police say it doesn't matter if those actions are civil disobedience or symbolic actions.
Police also remind protesters of their rights. They can protest on public sidewalks without a permit as long as they leave enough room for others to pass and obey traffic signals. Speech that angers other people is protected, but speakers can be arrested for advocating violence or breaking the law.
This official policy delineation is going to egg on the protesters. The police say that they will arrest people for not breaking the law. While some protesters telescope their lawbreaking plans, others claim no lawbreaking will occur. This is a recipe for many, many months of legal wrangling between ACLU lawyers and government lawyers during any criminal prosecutions after the convention.
They. Hate. Our. Freedoms.
The war on terror has been the STUPIDEST thing in Ameircan history since the war on marijuana.
Cops are encouraged - PAID - to believe complete bullshit as evidenced by their insane and ridiculous responses to things...like unapproved metal courier boxes:
A private courier company placed a collection box at the scene after regular U.S. Postal Service mail boxes were removed from downtown, a standard security precaution for the upcoming Democratic [ National ] convention, said post office spokesman Al DeSarro.
Because no Postal Service box was supposed to be on the corner this morning, the new courier's box triggered suspicion.
The bomb squad and a large number of squad cars responded.
Yeah, yeah, yeah... better safe than sorry.
Never any arguing with that sentiment, but...really...come on.
The hyperviolent police riot in Oakland a few tears ago was egged-on by law enforcement viewing ANY and ALL protests as potentially directly connected to "terrorism".
The state of California Anti-Terrorism Information Center (CATIC) spied on protesters and union officials before the police attack. In an Orwellian twist Mike Van Winkle, a spokesman for CATIC who has since been removed from that job, explained, "You can almost argue that a protest (against a war ... against ... international terrorism) is a terrorist act." Even more chilling, Van Winkle extends terrorism to include any action that has an "economic impact. Are union picket lines or civil rights demonstrations to be banned in this war on terror?
Imagine Denver in the background
Here's what happens when the cops shoot people with wooden blocks:
They were delusional and they attacked people and went overboard.
While the Denver City council has has ordered the police to overlook MOST marijuana possession, which is AWESOME, of course, they are being greenlighted to replicate Miami, Oakland, and the RNC.
This isn't about "preserving public safety" - that's fascist hogwash.
It's about damaging the First Amendment, plain and simple:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Police violence is intended to prevent the bolded issues from occurring.
The End.
