Mr. McCain, I think all of your houses might be glass (from AP):
"Does a guy who made more than $4 million last year, just got back from vacation on a private beach in Hawaii and bought his own million-dollar mansion with the help of a convicted felon really want to get into a debate about houses?" asked McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers.
Set aside the fact that, Obama's "friend" wasn't a felon at the time Obama bought his house. (McCain is talking about Chicago businessman Antonin "Tony" Rezko, who was convicted in June 2008 in a corruption scandal that had no connection to Obama.)
And let's not worry about the fact that Rezko gave Obama nothing but a little advice on the real estate. No money and no sweetheart deals.
And let's also set aside this:
Hawaii has no private beaches. Obama, who was born in Hawaii and spent most of his youth there, visited relatives during a recent vacation and joined the public swimming and surfing in the ocean.
Here's what I like about McCain's Hawaii smear: Maybe the McCains should try to ensure that what happens in Hawaii stays in Hawaii (Newsweek):
In the spring of 1979, Cindy joined her parents on a trip to Hawaii. At a Navy cocktail party, a cocky captain came up and introduced himself. John McCain was the Navy's chief liaison to the Senate in Washington. He was 41, but told her he was 37. Cindy was 24, but told him she was 27. By both accounts, it was love at first sight—though for McCain, it was far more complicated. He was a married father of three. His relationship with his first wife, Carol Shepp, was coming apart, and the two were separating, though he didn't divulge any of that to Cindy that first night.
So let's count the lies against Obama blurted out by the McCain campaign to make Obama look "out of touch" after McCain shot himself in the foot by admitting he doesn't know how many houses Cindy McCain owns:
- Rezko didn't help Obama buy a house.
- Rezko became a convicted felon after Obama bought the house.
- Obama didn't vacation on a private beach in Hawaii.
But ... McCain did meet his real estate pimp in Hawaii.
