Is there any Vibrant Lifeforce left for McCain's VP announcement,
or is it all tired blood from here on?
Have we all run out of convenience store energy drinks to get our blood pressures up?
And when all the Geritol's gone???
Are There Surprises In Store?
Its going to be an anti-climactic event, no matter who McCain selects from here out, as his running mate.
John McCain is almost surely going to that same old well for his running mate selection. There appears to be only have 3 or 4 choices worthy of consideration which have received any substantial attention. Blather about Condi Rice aside, there are no Republican "ribs" in that league: no women.
McCain has been called a "maverick."
A fanciful way to portray that John doesn't always play well with others & in fact is a euphemism for volatile "loose cannon." In light of this personality quirk, is there perhaps a candidate in the fold of Republicans who ran for the office with whom he can get along?
Paw Lenty
The one odd choice who did not seek higher office, Pawlenty seems as though he is a candidate who could perhaps bolster McCain a little. He certainly won't outshine McCain that's clear, though he might make McCain look all the older.
Tim's a little goofy-looking. But that won't be a factor. What will dull his star is his dubious record with the infrastructure: We can build bridges in Alaska - and we can watch them fall down in Minnesota rather like our entire infrastructure as a consequence of neglect. Do we go to the same guys to build the bridges back up?
Rumor is Tim promised upon his recent re-election that he would see out his term. It requires a public epiphany for him to go back on that promise without invoking insincerity. Pawlenty's best chance at higher office is to honor his pledge to fulfill his term.
Pawlenty is himself dull, but he is not dumb & he can throw off a line.
He went to college on the public subsidy, to a subsidized University and then he cut funding for education in his state, so that other folks' kids had to fend for themselves.
After cutting that budget, he begs credit for restoring SOME of the funding, as though it was great work. If I pickpocket a fiver - then give you 4 back, you should be grateful?
He went along with the Dick Cheney edict, to not run against Coleman for the nomination against Wellstone. In fact, Paw Lenty made political hay about it: that there was a call from Cheney per-sonally.
Whether "favorite son" syndrome is enough to turn Sky Blue Minnesota to Hooker Red is doubtful.
Joe LIEBERMAN
Lieberman is a risky venture. Its pretty much a Manchurian Candidate thing: A former Dem VP candidate - what if he flips again?
What turned him from Dem candidate to a Republican suddenly? Can anyone trust that moment?
Droopy Lieberman with the voice of Alf's dad?
The one thing he doesn't do, is outshine the candidate. But it doesn't speak as a MACHO ticket!
HUCKABEE?
Well, he couldn't tread water very long during the primary. Would they throw him into the deep end & upset average Republicans & even Americans who plan on enough future to send their kids to college?
We really don't need people in office who are planning to check out on the last train FROM Clarksville into that great beyond. End of Times.
We've already had James Watt tell us we didn't need no stinkin' natural resources - because we were all soon to be heaven-bound anyway: 20 years ago.
Although in fairness, I don't know for certain that Huckabee is one of the hardcore "check out of Hotel America & head for Zion" crowd. Do we really need a preacher in the white house?
ROMNEY
McCain's main squeeze seems to be Romney, as the most likely.
The one he will come to, after all the noise about the others is done, despite the obvious dislike they have for one another and would require ignoring a grating sound.
However, Romney underscores the 2 Americans. The unspoken class division as he parades like a male model dressed to the nines. Its going to be tough buying Romney with sleeves rolled up.
Romney feeds the "conspicuous wealth" image as out of touch with normal people. They should never have gone down the manipulative road about Obama & ludicrous accusations of "Elitism."
Romney, possibly even richer than the McCains, has his own elitist mansion & multiple estate problem after all the clamorous memes they did their best to paint Obama as elitist and out of touch.
The only way average people become one of "the haves" let along alone the "have-mores" BUSH's BASE is through education. And the Republican Sound Machine apparently thinks this makes Obama an elitist?
Tell that to the blue collar folks trying to put their kids into community college.
Romney whose 5 sons rode a battle-hardened motorhome into Iowa City, instead of Baghdad to do their service to god & country.
AHHHH! But IS there a choice?
What's it going to take to bring the Republican Convention out of the dolcrums?
Has John considered Hillary yet?
A true West Wing move of bipartisanship!!!
The one woman who has all the chops to have legitimately run for the highest office in the land without needing to be propped up like Gerry Ferraro was decades ago!
Of course, I am joking...
Yet Hillary remains the one choice which will galvanize the entire voting public on all sides! It would certainly raise a few blood pressures...
...and it would suddenly have Republicans talking about how frail John has been looking of late.
