A new CNN poll has the race tied folks. Yes it's early. But if the race were held today let's look at what would happen.
According to RealClearPolitics electoral map, without toss-ups Obama would win the election 273-265 if it were held today. Obama would lose both Florida and Ohio, lose Missouri and STILL become the next president.
This is because Obama would win both Colorado and N. Mexico and Iowa if the elections were held today. He also wins N. Hampshire today.
So Obama holds a 1 electoral delegate advantage heading into the convention. It's still very early, McCain hasn't even selected a running mate, but this is really scary to me.
Gas prices are through the roof, the economy is floundering, we're engaged in two wars we should never have waged...and McCain has a good chance of becoming our next President.
We are going to have to face the reality that CNN, FOX, and even MSNBC (apart from a few hours a day) are going to do everything in their power to secure a McCain victory in November. How we battle these corporate giants and educate the people about the Democratic Party I'm not sure hopefully today will be a good start.
Obama is going to have to spend a lot of time in Ohio, Missouri, and Florida because I personally don't think he's going to lose all three and become President. Hopefully Biden will get his hands dirty in Ohio and swing it for us.
The current state of the race will definitely not be where things are in November. Bob Barr may change things for us in the deep south, Obama and Biden will work the toss-up states, we're going to pour millions of dollars into advertising, and our ground-game will be vastly superior to McCain's come November. Still, I'm uneasy that things are this tight.
One bit of reassuring news though: McCain is virtually an incumbent and has never passed 47% in any poll so far. Let's hope that continues.
