I completely understand the strategem of tying McCain to Bush since he's decided to ass-kiss and coat-tail-ride Bush's legacy to a hopeful presidency.
We all know that was a stupid and miserably short-sighted idea for him from the beginning. But if you think back to the 2004 race-- McCain who was a defiant supporter of John Kerry suddenly went quiet and left his comrade Kerry's back exposed to the Swift Boaters during the middle of that contentious battle.
I knew then that he had cut a deal with Bush and Rove. They obviously promised him the next presidency if he fell in line behind them. And he obviously did.
So with Fall 2007, we get his openning campaign theme of his support for Bush, the special "Huggy Bear" picture with Bush....clueless that the country had alread turned on Bush big time.
But you and i both know the truth is that MCCain's attempt to paint himself a Bush-league candidate is not really anything more than a poorly strategized, old man's poor chess playing skills at trying to win an election.
In no way do i think he would enter the White House and be a lock-step imitation of Bush.
No.
The reality that is that it will not be more of the same. It will actually be even worse than we've come to expect from Bush.
This is a crotchity, dishonorable, asshole who will call the whole world a "cunt!" (excuse me for that quote for a moment) if it pisses him off in any way.
His "agreeing with Bush 95% of the time" was really his ass-kissing way of trying to get Bushes help for this election, not realizing he was begging for political capital from a capital-spent-empty bum.
So i close by saying i understand the Democratic approach towards moving the low-info voters with these ads, but they aren't completely accurate. And as long as they are effective ads, i'm all for them-- hell, my money is helping to pay for them.
But keep in mind that McCain's real negative is a egoic thirst for power, an unstable personality, a dishonorable politician and family man. And finally, based on my years of work with the elderly, i truly believe McCain is showing early signs of mental slowing towards demetia-- what we in the medical community call "cognitive decline"-- the phase that occurs prior to clear-cut dementia. Notice his stiff responses to questions, his out-of-touch attemtps at humor, and his robotic recitations of his policy positions with very little ability to "dance" intellectually in a debate.
My prediction is that he will be a non-effective politician within 2 years due to his cognitive decline.
And if this country of voters elects him, then i would repeat my heart-broken statement to my wife after the 2004 re-election of Bush, "it's not Bush that's the problem in America, it's the 51% of this country who are clueless enough, greedy enough, and hateful enough to re-elect him who are the problem."
