This news just in:
Former Gov. Mark Warner plans to offer a lesson in Virginia-style bipartisanship to thousands of hardcore Democrats in his convention keynote speech Tuesday night.
"There may be parts of the speech that aren't going to get a lot of applause," Warner said Monday, "but I've got to say what I believe will get our country back on the right path."...
Yeah, Mark, that's just what the country needs: more Virginia-style bipartisanship (i.e centrism.)
At a time when Obama needs to associate himself with a popular Democratic brand, when the Republicans and their allies in the centrist-corporate wing of the Democratic Party have devastated the country, the keynote speaker is going to preach bipartisanship. Awesome.
Of course, you get what you pay for. Obama could have anointed a progressive heir or at least turned a progressive--like Jeff Merkley, say--into a national figure; instead, he chose a Mr. DLC's Sensible Center.
Yet in the heartland, in states like Virginia, folks are looking for something else, something I call the sensible center.
This choice was hailed by most people in the netroots--including Georgia10-as "great news."
