In a word...NOTHING! But you would never think so after hearing all the media blow-hards and looking at the polls. If there was a journalist with any shred of a functioning brain, the question that should be asked is, "What's wrong with this country?"
For the first time in the history of this country we have a presidential candidate of color, of which a big deal should be made. For this fact, I am extremly proud of my country. However, I, and many others I have spoken with, are afraid that a majority of the electorate is too stupid to elect the right person.
The polls now show McSame leading Obama by 2 points. This guy has done nothing but attack, forget, attack, forget, lie, attack, lie, and forget. Apparently, none of that matters to the no-informed voter because he's a "maverick." If maverick means that you go against your OWN past positions, then I guess he's a maverick alright because voting with Bush 95% of the time certainly isn't bucking your party.
I am so tired of hearing the punditry pontificate as to why Obama has a problem with the "white working class" or Catholics or left-handed, men over 6-feet tall who play poker on Tuesday nights. Did one of them EVER think that maybe the question should be looked at from the other angle? How about asking why certain voting blocs have a problem with Obama? How does one convince a group of voters that he is the best choice when there is no chance in hell they would ever vote for him? Does he have a chance of winning West Virginia, Tennessee or Mississippi? Not in a million years. But it is always pointed out that he is not winning in blood-red states. Has anyone in the media ever wondered aloud as to why McCain is not leading in California and New York, two states with more electoral votes then most of the ones McCain will most likely win? Honestly, I don't want voters from some of those states deciding who will be president. It's the reason for the last eight years and I can' deal with at least another four.
My greatest fear is that this country will get the president it deserves rather than the one it needs.
