Like most of you, I've been reading many articles on Sarah Palin. One thing I've noticed is that the population of the town she's from seems to fluctuate.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Not that it really matters in the end, but what exactly is Wasilla's population?
Wikipedia lists the population as 5,469.
An article at Huffpo says the population is 9000.
Today, the New York Times doesn't give a sure number saying "less than 7000".
Slate says it's 7000.
An article at The Politico states the number as 6700.

Why is it so hard to come up with a standard number everyone can agree on?
If anyone can shed any light on this pressing issue, please help.
UPDATE
It looks like someone beat me to it: Daniel Nasaw writing for the Guardian UK has a similar post with more numbers.
