Failin Palin's ability to lie makes her an apt proposed successor to Darth Cheney.
Daily Howler and Tristero writing at Digby's Hullabaloo give us a good rundown on her lie about how she handled issues related to Alaska's windfall profits tax
In her Friday rollout with McSame, Palin told us
Along with fellow reformers in the great state of Alaska, as governor I stood up to the old politics as usual, to the special interests, to the lobbyists, the big oil companies, and the good old boy network. When oil and gas prices went up so dramatically, and the state revenues followed with that increase, I sent a large share of that revenue directly back to the people of Alaska.
What a champion of the people! But Palin vastly misstates this heroic tale too. Once again, she has basically lied.
Palin makes it sound like she charged to the rescue after Oil and Gas prices went up on their own. Like she did something NEW!! Bold! and Mavericky!
What really happened?
Alaska's Legislature last year approved a major increase in taxes on the oil industry — a step that has generated stunning new wealth for the state as oil prices soared.
Seattle Times
State Sen. Hollis French, an Anchorage Democrat who supported the windfall tax, said the oil companies " ... were literally printing money on the North Slope. We decided to strike the balance a little bit more on our side."
Let's see windfall profits tax someone has that idea? Maybe that Jake Tapper Guy has an idea who? McCain of course hates the idea no matter how much it has done for the citizens. The campaign website notes "John McCain Does Not Support A Windfall Profits Tax."
"Alaska collected an estimated $6 billion from the new tax"
As Somerby explained
A windfall tax on the oil companies? With the revenues given to tax-payers? That, of course, is what Obama is now proposing on the national level. It’s hard to square with Republican politics or messaging—so Palin again played games with the truth. Rather baldly, she misled voters about what actually happened.
Though I think Tristero's analysis is more right to the point
Palin's propensity to lie and mislead seems to be of pathological proportions. In other words, she's a typical 21st Century Republican.
Just another Republican lie. And there is more top the lie because, of course the The Alaska Rebate program was not created by Sarah Failin. Its been in place since 1976.
