I was sitting in my backyard when I got the message. Working on my fourth or fifth tall, cool one. I had to work like four hours a today because I am a sportswriter who covers the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes (gotta keep on that Chris Wells watch) and I was just chillin'...I was chillilicious in fact when I got the text message.
It read: Barack asks you to give to the Red Cross. Give $5 by texting GIVE to 24357 or give more by calling...
The contribution was for hurricane relief for the Gulf Coast.
This could be viewed as a purely opportunistic and political move, excepting one thing. Obama is no where near the Gulf Coast right now and he's expressed disdain for going their in an emergency when he knows that law enforcement officials have more important things to do other than to safeguard his welfare.
I don't personally don't want to politicize this, but I have to ask, how refreshing is it that there's a politician out there who is prescient enough to care about the impact of a national disastter to ask folks to give beforehand?
This is an exmaple of what leadership is. This is an example of what caring is. This is an example of what America used to be and can be again.
For the record, I texted GIVE four times for $20. It's my hope that other Kossacks will do the same.
