Ok, folks -- time to get creative.  The GOP's intrepid warship is now taking on water and may be run ashore any moment now.

Just sit right back & you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailing man, The skipper brave & sure.
Five passengers set sail that day for a three hour tour,
A three hour tour

The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The Minnow would be lost,
The Minnow would be lost.

Call for entries. Contest ends Friday. Cast of characters: The Skipper (Karl Rove), Mary Anne (Sarah Palin), Thurston Howell III (John McCain) -- you decide the rest.  Theme song and a picture of the ~actual~ cast here, but also abundantly available elsewhere.  If you need some music to help get into the swing of things, go here and click on trapd.wav.

Some of you may remember the 2006 DailyKos Photoshop Contest called A Dick Cheney Halloween.  That was fun.

This is, arguably, even more fun.

The GOP hasn't just scuttled our own Ship of State; they took control of it, rammed it into an iceberg and are trying to take off with their booty.  They're trying to coordinate a desperate campaign to float a distraction by us and derail efforts to right our nation before it sinks, but they've miscalculated.

Just like the storm in the Gilligan's Island lyrics, Katrina, then Rita and now Gustav -- and apparently a series of siblings -- have acted to toss about their tiny ship and strand them on a desert island without a clue. (And no pie.)

Grab a set of the lyrics, and using any pic you can Photoshop to put the right cast of characters together, post your entry in the comments below along with the passage from the lyrics that you feel help illustrate the pic.  You are allowed to create new stanzas -- but those will be considered in judging, too.

Entries must be completed by Friday EOB; a poll will be posted Saturday for people to vote on their favorites and I'll post the winners on Sunday.

NOTE: No babygate or any other family slams permitted.

Have fun. :)

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
