Is it just me or is the Republican Convention extremely amateurish? I don't know what exactly they're trying to do by putting on their Convention after the Democrats, if I were them I would've certainly done it after.
I was watching coverage of the convention today and yesterday on CNN and to be frank I felt kind of sorry for the Republican party, I mean the convention is truly horrible. They have this big screen at the back of the stage that loops footage of an American flag soaring on a flag pole but when you watch it on television all you see is the aqua blue background from the podium because the flag is so high up.
The arena looks like it is quite empty, nobody looks particularly inspired by this whole thing that is taking place. They have these red suede chairs on the floor and red carpet. I don't think I'm nitpicking here, the optics of the convention is truly amateurish and uninspiring.
To make matters worse the speakers aren't very exciting to say the least as they stand in front of the aqua blue screen professing their undying admiration for their "maverick" candidate John McCain.
I say if people really want to know what state the two major political parties are in look no further then the two conventions. The Democratic convention: fun, exciting, young, vibrant, diverse. These are some of the words that come to mind for their convention. The Republicans on the other hand: boring, stale, amateurish, pitiful, old.
By the way can anybody point out where any of the stars from the 2004 convention are this time around? Mitt Romney? Arnold Schwarzenegger? Rudy Giuliani? Zell Miller? I think they set McCain up to be the laughing stock of the party come November 5th.
