Call it the Audacity of a Dope.
Senator McCain, not even a week removed from his VP pick, is now saying the media's vetting of Sarah Palin is over. Stop picking on my choice. Specifically, campaign adviser Steve Schmidt issued a written statement with a terse warning:
"This nonsense is over."
Sorry Mr. Schmidt. This "nonsense" is NOT over. Not by a long shot.
From where I sit, on the other side of the political spectrum, y'all are getting your just desserts.
And it is long since overdue.
As someone who has supported Barack Obama, and has had to endure...
* whispers about him being a Muslim, and being educated in an Indonesian madrassa
* stories about Rev. Jeremiah Wright
* stories about Tony Rezko
* stories about Obama refusing to say the pledge
* stories about Obama not wearing a flag pin
* rumors that Michelle Obama once called someone "whitey"
* the alleged association to the Weather Underground and William Ayers
and on...and on...and on.
No, Sen. McCain, you will get NO sympathy from me.
Your candidate for VP has been vetted by the media for merely 6 days.
My candidate for President has been vetted by the media for 19 long months.
And has had to deal with more nasty stories and smears than Sarah Palin will ever face. That's the truth.
Funny thing is, my candidate for President never whined about it they way you have. He's handled with grace, charm, wit, and cool, even though you could see that there were days it was getting to him.
I'm sorry you don't like the heat you are taking. But it is called sunlight. Something that happens when you vet someone.
And if you had done your job from the beginning, you would know that.
Your behavior -- your CAMPAIGN'S behavior -- in the past week leads me to believe that you are actually more of a dangerous choice than I thought.
Thankfully, we as a nation can say what Obama said to you last Thursday night.
ENOUGH.
