Background: My husband is Canadian. He is a long-time cynic and quite politically disaffected. He thinks it's ALL bullshit, though he has enjoyed listening to Barack Obama.
He sat with me through the first half of the Palin speech. And he's now convinced.
More over the fold.
I keep asking Mr. RenaRF to get out there and canvass with me. I don't begrudge him that he doesn't want to do it. Not all of us are as into it as - well - all of us. You know what I mean. You might have a spouse similar to mine.
So during all of the ridiculously long applause for a woman who hasn't done very much, I looked at my husband, who was shaking his head, and said "this has ALL come down to the status and rights of a fertilized egg." I just shook my head.
He turned and looked at me - after a few minutes - and said "THIS is what's wrong with America" as he gestured at Palin on the TV.
I said "then you should get out there and canvass with me. I always ask my Republican friends one question when we're talking - 'How much time have you volunteered for John McCain'? Zero, they all say. THAT is where the difference is, [Mr RenaRF]. Door knocking. Wanting it more than any of them do."
He's on board. He's going to start getting out there and talking to voters with me.
Thanks, Sarah.
Update [2008-9-3 23:2:4 by RenaRF]: Mr. RenaRF's latest comment, having come back upstairs. "They're all white."
Yeah. No shit.
