We have all, at one point or another, known someone who was either the recipient of, or the originator of, love at first sight. In rare cases, it works out, but in most cases, as the lover gets to know the lovee, the bloom falls quickly from the rose. .
So, we had an arena full, and a Republican party full, of people that want to pass themselves off as intelligent, worldly, educated and clever people that are all crowing today about what a wonderful candidate Sarah Palin is.
The people fawning over her know absolutely nothing about her. She read a speech on a teleprompter, and has done exactly as she has been told to do. What does she believe at any detailed level? What does she feel about changing Medicare, Medicaide and Social Security? Does she even know how they work? If she enjoins the concept of budget cutting, what would she cut? Does she know what is going on in Darfur, who the leader of Georgia is, the name of the President of Russia? What does she think of carbon offset credits, free trade with Columbia, programs to help keep kids from dropping out of school (other than not being pregnant)?
This instant adolation is the creepy kind, the type that the guy who is 45 and living with his mother has when he falls in love with a stripper. My only impression was that the Republican Party faithful were less impressed with someone they know and have learned to love and admire and more like the the pervert with his fingers in the chain link fence ogling the little girls on the playground. How pitifully desperate they are
