This might seem a bit far-fetched....but what if the Palin pick was brilliant after all?
Nobody knew who Sarah Palin was last week (except for me...when the pick was made my boyfriend made fun of me because I knew who she was when she was just the governor of Alaska). Sarah Palin couldn't have possibly thought that the news of her pregnant daughter wouldn't leak and become a factor in the race, especially as her daughter would have grown continuously larger before the election.
The media loves sex scandals. Since the news broke of Bristol's pregnancy, it has been on everyone's mind, especially the mind of the media.
And what do people think? You know, the electorate? The people who elect the president?
They are SICK AND TIRED of hearing about Bristol's pregnancy. A good majority, I'm sure, wishes that the media would stay away from the story. Palin is generating sympathy from the American people, not as the mother of a pregnant teenager, but as the mother of a child who is being attacked by the media. Sarah Palin and her family can paint themselves as victims of the "librul" media...and remember how Clinton's numbers went up after she played that card?
Additionally, the pregnancy has distracted the public from Palin's scandals (the real ones), her thin resume, and her ridiculous political positions. People see her as the mooseburger-eating mother of a pregnant teenager, not as someone who believes that America was sent on a mission from God to invade Iraq.
Unfortunately, this strategy might be working. The moderates I live with are Sarah Palin fans, to my bewilderment, and have made them more likely to vote for McCain. I'm bewildered.
