The audience numbers are in from last night - 37.2 million viewed Palin, pretty close to Barack's historic 38.4 million last week. The questions are first, what did they see, and second what did they think of what they saw?

What they saw last week was inspirational to all those receptive to his message, regardless of party. What they saw last night was partisan to the core, rabble-rousing and flat out lies. We won't know what people really thought of it until we see the the polls, but I would say both speeches inspired their respective bases - the difference is that last night, Sarah Palin ALSO inspired Barack's base to contribute more and work harder to defeat her. Last week? Well, apparently what McCain saw inspired him to pick an unprepared Tracy Flick wanna be who's good mainly for tossing out the cheap shots that go over well with people who are already going to vote for him.
We'll see which audience, this week's or last week's, was more impressed over the long haul.
