On September 10, only four days from now, Congressman Dennis Kucinich will present a petition to Nancy Pelosi in support of impeaching President Bush. In August, he presented a petition bearing about 100,000 names. This time, he's shooting for 1,000,000.

Kucinich has sent out multiple emails to his supporters asking for their help in reaching his goal, and I thought there would be no better way to accomplish that than to post a diary here at the Daily KOS.
But what would impeachment do? What's the purpose with only a few months left in the Bush presidency? The answer is that it would set a historic and legal precedent, telling future presidents that they are not above the law and they have to stay within their Constitutional bounds.
It is not okay for a president to give himself the power to arrest and detain any person he deems an "enemy combatant." It is not okay to give no-bid contracts to your cronies. It is not okay to ignore international treaties that have been ratified as US law. It is not okay to torture. It is not okay to lie in order to send our troops into an unnecessary war. The president does not decide what is legal and what is illegal. I think all of you reading this know that what I'm saying is true, and because of that I am asking you to sign the Congressman's petition.
