Like nearly everyone here, I was already disgusted with McCain but the Palin pick reminded me of everything I detest about the Bush administration: arrogance, incompetence, fear mongering and a general disregard for science and civil liberties. And McCain's sudden embrace of the change mantle reminds me an awful lot of someone who repeatedly claimed "I'm a uniter, not a divider". Uh-huh. Well, I'm not putting up with it any more. Follow me over the fold to see how I'm fighting back.
I live in Seattle, WA. It's nice to be part of a community that enthusiastically supports Barack Obama by a considerable margin. As I was planning to ramp up my local voter registration efforts, it dawned on me that I could be spending my time and energy more fruitfully in one of the battleground states. Until recently, however, this was just a random thought knocking around the back of my mind. Then the Palin pick came out and a surprising number of Americans seemed enthusiastic about the idea of electing another incompetent figurehead, another stealth extremist, another national embarrassment to high office. So I decided I'm not taking this sitting down...I'm going to Ohio.
I've arranged to spend the three weeks leading up to the Ohio voter registration deadline in Columbus, OH, registering as many voters in Democratic areas as I possibly can.
And you know what else? You can do something too. Maybe you can't afford to travel to another state but you can get out in your own neighborhood registering voters on weeknights and weekends. If you haven't donated as much as you intend to, now is a great time to give more money. If you can take time off work on election day, you can help get out the vote on November 4. Go to http://my.barackobama.com/..., find your local campaign office, call and ask how you can help.
We have 60 days to go, folks. Let's not stand by and watch the Republican's steal another election and hijack our future. Let's send a message, loud and clear, across our country and around the world.
