Many of you who will read this will abhor the negative feelings that I'm about to express and I don't blame you. After all, those who've checked the excellent website electoral-vote.com should feel confident that Barack Obama and Joe Biden will win on November 4. According to the prognosticators of the website, Barack Obama will win 301-224 in the Electoral College.
Great. But I keep asking myself, why am I still nervous?
You see, in a perfect world, Barack Obama should win in a landslide over a politician who has shown that he would put his own ambitions over country. But you see, we don't live in a perfect world. We live in that land of make believe known as the United States of America. And, after
watching Sarah Palin's effective, yet pathetic speech this week, I'm feeling a bit uneasy about the last 8 weeks of this historic election.
I can point to one instant and that is what that turd Donny Deutsch had to say about Sarah Palin. To summarize, no one cares what Sarah Palin had to say about Energy, Washington, or the fact that she smugly claimed that Community Organizers don't have any responsibilities. The fact is that people like her because she's this cute hockey mom, who loves to hunt moose, and smiles and can throw a left jab and this and that...
The American people have shown many times that they would rather elect someone that they can have over for a beer and not someone who is adept at the many issues that we face in this country. The American people want someone that they're comfortable with having in their homes. Nevermind that the individual lacks the neccessary experience to be commander-in-chief, should McCain decide to step down, or heaven forbid, die. Nevermind the fact that the only reason why, Governor Palin won't meet with the media because she doesn't know much about, well, everything. People will warm to her because of her personality. And that's how Conservatives really choose their leaders. It's cult of personality rather than expertise on many of the complex issues that we face.
Governor Palin has a cult following right now and it scares the shit out of me. We can't be overly confident about November 4. Remember, the great people of this nation gave us:
5 years of Nixon
8 years of Reagan
4 years of Bush, Sr.
and 8 years of Bush, Jr.
That's 25 years of the last 40 years.
The American people has shown that they would rather be led by an individual who will do anything to become President. Both Bushes, Nixon and Reagan achieved their goals by appealing to the darkside of the American conscience. The werewolf in all of us. And, McCain, a war hero is doing the same thing. The American people have shown that they would rather be led by a bastard rather than an individual who seeks the goodness in all of us. No matter what we believe in.
I hope I'm proven wrong.
That the American people will see behind McCain's charade and kick him to the curb where he belongs.
But until I hear someone say on November 4, that John McCain is ready to concede to Barack Obama, I will remain very nervous.
