If you were to believe the NYT apparently Obama's camp has fallen on hard times and has made the most heinous mistake in the world by not accepting public financing.
Pushing a fund-raiser later this month, a finance staff member sent a sharply worded note last week to Illinois members of its national finance committee, calling their recent efforts “extremely anemic.”
hmm.....well I guess...I mean that note couldn't be used for motivational purposes could it? It's kind of like the Toys for Tots drive at Christmas during the local news. They are always woefully behind on donations up until the last day and then ...BOOM...they hit their target and everyone walks away happy. Did the NYT expect the Obama camp to put out the note that said...
Hey we're flush with cash stop donating until October. Quit bothering us with donations

Here's some more quality reporting
Members of Mr. Obama’s national finance committee were briefed during the convention in Denver by Mr. Plouffe. Penny Pritzker, the Obama finance chairwoman, announced new state-by-state fund-raising goals. The decidedly business-oriented nature of the meeting reflected the burden on the Obama campaign in the coming weeks.
Egads!!!! The finance chairwoman sat in a meeting that was decidedly business-oriented. Shocking!! I'm a neophyte when it comes to campaigns but I'm guessing that finance chairpeople sit through a lot of business-oriented like meetings. And of course these meetings on finance definitely reflect the burden of the campaign.
Thank goodness the NYT went straight to the experts:
“I think McCain made the right call,” said Scott Reed, a Republican strategist who managed Bob Dole’s presidential campaign in 1996.
**note from NYT editors "Always get the money quotes from strategists from the losing campaign"
They go on to discuss a super secret motivational tool that only republicans could think of
A recent e-mail message to McCain fund-raisers unveiled new incentives to spur them in their final push. For the primary, anyone who raised $100,000 or more earned the title of Trailblazer, while those who raised $250,000 or more became Innovators. Now Trailblazers who raise another $100,000 for the party for the general election can become Super-Trailblazers, and Innovators who raise another $250,000 earn the title of Super-Innovators.
What's next for McCain Super-Duper Trailblazer. Time to get out and hit the pavement because the NYT has me convinced Obama's doomed now. Oh wait the NYT is ready to provide that doom and gloom
The new state-by-state goals unveiled by campaign officials in Denver stunned at least some in the room and included sizable increases for at least some states, according to interviews with several Obama fund-raisers.
I'll stop here because its the classic MSM meme of putting the shocking headline up "OMG Obama Might Not Meet Expectations!!!" and then backing it up by comparing it to fundraising goals the campaign has. It's as if the NYT would have been more optimistic if the Obama camp had set out to raise $85 million plus $1 but now anything less than $450 million will be considered by the NYT to be abject failure.
Goodbye NYT! Goodbye MSM!
I quit.
