Just thought I'd add this little gem to the burgeoning catalog of Sarah Palin's Lies. And I bet it's one you haven't heard about before.
Before segueing into the "drill! drill! drill!" section of her convention speech, Palin threw out this condescending caveat:
Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems - as if we all didn't know that already.
Funny thing, though, back in July of this year (before Bush speechwriter Matthew Scully began smoothing over Palin's extremism), the Alaska governor seemed absolutely certain that drilling is, in fact, the silver bullet that will solve all of our problems.
Here's what Sarah Palin had to say to Investor's Business Daily about drilling as an energy panacea:
IBD: Some politicians and presidential candidates say we can't drill our way out of our energy problem and that drilling in ANWR will have no effect. What's your best guess of the impact on prices?
Palin: I beg to disagree with any candidate who would say we can't drill our way out of our problem or that more supply won't ultimately affect prices.
When Sarah Palin told the country that "we all know" drilling won't solve all of America's energy problems, she was lying, again. The Real Sarah Palin believes that drilling will solve everything. Problem is, most American's know that's ridiculous, that it's an extreme, simple-minded way to approach the issue.
And no doubt Sarah would do her best to eliminate any shred of energy-policy moderation in a McCain administration. Check out how she condescendingly discusses McCain's energy policy just weeks before he chose her as his maverick soul-mate:
Kudlow: You know we talked about a month ago, or last time you were on the program, you told me you were going to persuade Senator McCain to drill in ANWR. Now actually, McCain’s come a long way on drilling Outer Continental Shelf. Have you yet talked him into ANWR?
Palin: I have not talked him into ANWR yet. But yeah, aren’t you appreciative though that his mind has evolved into being open enough to say yes to that offshore? Obama certainly hasn’t gone there. So, you know, for me it’s all the more reason to support the Republican ticket heading into the next era in American economy here. We certainly need this. We need it for American security, for energy independence. All those things we talked about last time. I think we need McCain in that White House despite, still, the close-mindedness on ANWR. I think he’s going to get there though.
Kudlow: All right, well we need you to persuade him.
