Credit where credit is due to the McCain campaign's rapid response team. The moment they heard that Barack Obama was talking about pigs, they rushed in to object to his calling Sarah Palin names.
You can put lipstick on a pig," he said to an outbreak of laughter, shouts and raucous applause from his audience, clearly drawing a connection to Palin's joke. "It's still a pig. You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still going to stink after eight years."
And while the McCain campaign immediately demanded an apology for this perceived insult, the Obama campaign declined, pointing out that Obama had been talking about John McCain. Which raises an interesting question: why didn't the McCain campaign object to John being compared to a rotting fish?
