Today I saw for the first time the profane and disgusting ad issued by the McCain camp about Senator Obama's support for sex education in Illinois schools. John McCain if this is the kind of wrongheaded direction you'd like to take this country in, as a mother of six children, I am calling you out.
I had no idea that you could stoop to this, that you could behave in such a low despicable manner,
well you proved me wrong.
From Maragaret Talev of McCaltchy newspapers:
But the legislation allowed local school boards to teach "age-appropriate" sex education, not comprehensive lessons to kindergartners, and it gave schools the ability to warn young children about inappropriate touching and sexual predators.
Let me tell you something Senator, let me tell you a true short story from an American mother. Twelve years ago my two youngest children, failed to arrive home from school on time. I remained calm for 45 minutes, calling their friend's homes, waiting patiently at my front window, and then, knowing something was not right, I threw on my sweater to go find them.
Anyone with children knows the mind numbing terror of wondering if something has happened to one of their children. That day I was worried about two of my children, both of them girls under the age of eight. Halfway to their school I began to weep because there was not one sign of them anywhere. I called their names, I combed the streets and in a very short time I was hysterical. There was nothing I could do but run home to call the local Police Department.
When I arrived home they were sitting in my front room. They hadn't gone to a friend's house without telling me, they hadn't taken a back way home and tarried, they had been chased by a sexual predator in a black truck who was intent on exposing himself to them and frightening them half to death. They had the presence of mind to drop to the ground and hide behind a parked car. Had the man chasing them been bold enough he was just a few hundred yards away from a main highway and the chance to escape with my children.
My girls were lucky because they had done the right thing, there was no program in their school to educate them about someone like the man in the black truck, they were just lucky, damned lucky.
So as a mother, Senator McCain, I am calling you out, for your malicious twisting of a bill Senator Obama supported to help children who might be in the same situation my two beloved daughters found themselves in. I'm calling you out because in your quest for the White House you are showing that you have so little decency that you would make light of something written to help innocent children. I'm calling you out because the only reason my two daughters came home was luck. And luck just ain't enough when it comes to our children. Senator McCain you should be ashamed.
