The votes aren't all counted yet, but it's not looking good for Orange to Blue candidate Jon Powers. The news isn't all bad, however. Even though he's behind by 6 points with 91% reporting, he's not running behind crazy Jack Davis, he's running behind the very progressive Alice Kryzan.
The results aren't finalized yet, but as of now, with 91% reporting, it's Kryzan with 42%, Powers with 36%, and Davis with 23%.
I posted a comment late last night/early this morning saying that I would be happy with a Powers win, but that Kryzan was probably more representative of my progressive values. It's great to see that these values were shared by my neighbors, but now we've got a huge fight on our hands. The NY-26 is a pretty red district. Kryzan was actually the only life-long democrat in the race and that might hurt her in November. It's going to be a tough race, but if all of the folks outside of the district (e.g., John Kerry and many of those who write here at Kos) stand up for Alice, she'll have a fighting chance.
Even though it wasn't the candidate that got the most support from this blog, we should all be very happy that a good progressive will have a chance to take on Chris Lee for this seat.
