John McCain's desperate attack ad accusing Obama of supporting sex ed for Kindergartners represents a tremendous opportunity and I hope that team Obama intends to use it. This is the kind of attack that has worked on democrats in the past. Anything involving sex and young kids usually invokes a tremendous fear in politics. The usual response is to steer clear of the discussion. On the flip...how he should counter-punch this attack.
I have seen others suggest that he go after McCain for his apparent desire to keep young children ignorant about the dangers of sexual predators. This isn't a bad start. But you can take it even further. You can go after him for being unwilling to stand up for the safety of your family. You can go back to your established narrative of John McCain doesn't get it. You point out that he is so entrenched in the old ways of thinking that he is advocating policies that put your family at risk. This is about John McCain's failure to understand the threats in today's world.
John McCain doesn't get it.
In John McCain's America child molesters would know that children are defenseless.
John McCain doesn't understand the threats of today.
John McCain is so married to his support of George Bush's war that he would rather have our sons and daughters in the military baby-sit a civil war at the cost of $10 billion dollars a month.
John McCain doesn't get it. We need to focus on the terrorists in Afghanistan.
John McCain isn't change. He is more of the same old, failed ideas.
We need fresh ideas to face the challenges of today. We need to protect our families here in America from all kinds of threats and John McCain isn't up to the task. He is unable or unwilling to make the changes that need to be made to keep you and your family safe.
That should be Obama's response. Thanks for reading.
