This isn't a diary about McCain's running mate. It's about how the Bridge to Nowhere symbolizes what a McCain administration would be.
It's about four more years of Bush/Cheney-style lies and deception.
It's about how the media has largely stayed silent on so many of McCain's flip-flops and "gaffes." So when I heard Simon and Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence" the other day, I got inspired.
Read on.
Given that Paul Simon was a supporter of Chris Dodd, I'm fairly certain that he doesn't want to see McCain elected. And hopefully, he wouldn't mind if I put some new lyrics to that classic tune.
I hope you like it. If you think it's stupid, I apologize. If you like it and are a musician (which I am not), feel free to record it. At the very least, thanks for reading (and here's an mp3 stream of the original.):
Hello, deception, my old friend
Here I am with you again
And fool the people willingly sleeping
Who buy my lines without thinking
Never asking why my stands
Melt away
I don't explain
Just like the Bridge to Nowhere.
Forty years now have flown
Since I served so far from home
Bravely lasting through captivity
Enduring torture from our enemies
Though I broke with Bush against
The very same
My stand then changed
Just like the Bridge to Nowhere.
Bush tax cuts I once opposed
Like wiretaps, Guantanamo
I said that Iraq would be easy
Now I'm fine with fighting endlessly
No timelines, no withdrawal
Though Maliki
Wants us to leave
We're on the Bridge to Nowhere
Friends said I, you must not know
My stands are like the melting snow
Hear my words but ignore the facts
I'm glad the media has my back
Cuz a maverick can't tow the party line
Like I've towed mine
Like the Bridge to Nowhere.
And in my quest for votes I've lied
To bring voters to my side
A team of lobbyists to guide my way
Donate money and watch me sway
But the question you should ask:
Do you fear
Four more years
On the Bridge to Nowhere?
Now go donate to Obama!!!
