Having grown up deep in the country, I am familiar with the type of fellas that actually put lipstick on pigs. The first thing you have to do is get really drunk. Is the pig Palin? No. The pig is McCain's plans.
The GOP must be really drunk, that is the only explanation. The pig isn't Sarah Palin, it is McCain's economic plan. He talks about cuts. What will he cut? Other than earmarks, what will he cut? If you aren't increasing revenue, you are cutting spending. Where?
He won't cut the budget items comprised of DOD, Homeland Security and the current off-budget expenses for Iraq. He may even increase them from current levels.
He hasn't addressed once, not once, how or if he plans to cut the budget of the entitlement programs of social security, medicare and medicade. Nor has he addressed how he will pay for the fact that the growth in the number of people entitled to those plans will exceed the revenue growth to pay for those plans. Not one word.
He has addressed earmarks. Earmark money will simply be rolled into a more traditional approach to passing legislation, to think the requested money goes away is naive at best, stupid at worst. He actually thinks waiving that pen around scares Congressmen. The total amount of earmarks requested last year equal one month in Iraq, or the interest on the national debt.
He has not laid out one, mathematically proven plan on reducing the debt. Not just the defecit, but the debt. He has said military spending will improve from efficiencies. On what, God only knows (perhaps he can pass that on to Sarah who can relate it in tongues - sorry, one Palin shot at how ridiculous she is can't be helped). How will McCain balance the budget and reduce the debt - specifically. Where will the money come from? Earmarks and the budgets of Education, HHS, Transportation, Commerce et al? 70% of the money is in entitlements and defense. Hold him to discussing specific spending on entitlements and defense. If he doesn't do something there, there isn't enough money in what is left to change the course.
He has said his plan will reduce revenues. Now, if you reduce revenues, but don't reduce spending by at least that much, what happens? Even McCain can figure that out, the debt goes up. His plan is that old voodoo that you do so well, it is a return to trickle down economics. The growth in the debt under Republicans since Reagan has been the hidden, unspoken cracks in the foundation of our well-being. Trickle down doesn't work. Giving everyone a chance to participate works, ala Clinton, but giving all the breaks to the people that are aleady rich and trusting they will create opportunities for the rest of the slobs to serve them has been proven not to work, and it grows the debt exponentially.
The pig is McCain's economic plan. An economic plan is a math thing, not a words thing. Let McCain run us through the math of his plan, Obama please challenge him to go through the numbers, not the waiving of the earmark pen. When we expose the McCain pig for what it is by forcing him to speak to the details, the same thing will happen that happens to every redneck who, in a drunken state like the GOP is now, puts lipstick on a pig gets caught. They will swear they were just trying to help it over the fence.
