I suspect that the recent number of diaries talking about a VP swap are from trolls. But It's important to remember a few facts about the whole thing. And it's important to remember that Hillary was NEVER a good choice for VP. It was a diaster waiting to happen.
- Who was pushing the whole Hillary for VP thing? It was the Republicans. If you watched cable news in the months leading up to the selection, it was always Republican politcians or strategists or commentators that were crying crocodile tears about poor, poor Hillary.
- Hillary is not much (if any) more expirenced that Barack. In order to run this country, Barack made a pick that will help him actually run the country.
- Biden's comment was a) self-deprecating and b)was meant to point out that while Hillary was qualified, Palin is not.
- All media reports before the selection said that Hillary didn't necessarily want to be VP, because of the donors to the Clinton Library and having to identify them.
- The Republicans ran their convention like they were running against Bill Clinton. From the polls, this was effective for their base. This would have been magnified with another Clinton on the ticket.
- I suspect that a good number of people that supported Hillary in the primaries who refuse to vote for Barack would not vote for a black person for president. Thus, I am not sure that Hillary on the ticket would sway them.
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT REASON:
- The Republicans don't love Palin because she is a woman. They love her because she is "pure" in their opinion. She doesn't have much of a record (and what she does have she can lie about), she is their perfect candidate, and they can continue their talk about poor Hillary and her supporters. If Hillary were on the ticket, they would be attacking her like we WISH we could attack Palin.
Bottom line is it would not work. It would not have worked a month ago. And it would not work now. Biden is a great candidate and will be an excellent vice president. It is up to us now to get out the vote and to make sure that Obama/Biden win.
