Every cycle is close on Labor Day if you listen to the MSM. Hell, in 2002, which anyone with a pulse knew was going to be bloody, the Democrats were being lauded for going along with the resolution to authorize force, thus (the cockamamie theory went) negating it as a campaign issue and forcing the discussion to the economic bleeding the country was already beginning to sustain. And we all know how that turned out.
Interestingly, it's only the Republican blowouts that seem to get amplified. When the Overthrow of 2006 is given the same holy aura as the Revolution of 1994, I'll be convinced that my current cynical position is just that.
And here's that current cynical postion: We Are Being Lied To. The media is selecting these polls, who answers them, who they call, the sample sizes, the trends and (ultimately) the numbers arbitrarily in an effort to drive up viewership for the election. Who wants to watch a race that isn't close, back and forth, horse-race-esque in every way?
The actual campaign for President began on Monday. Did you know that? Or have you been watching cable news for the last three (hell, make it nine) months thinking it was anything but prologue?
We've got this. Carter looked like he was going to win late, too. The debates are going to be like 2004 (our guy consistently mopping the floor with the other guy defending the status quo), with two key differences - a better candidate and increased viewership.
As long as we take nothing for granted, we will change this country.
