Sitting in an airport waiting room yesterday in Salt Lake City, something interesting happened. A spontaneous conversation arose about politics and there was no one there who liked McCain. No one. In Salt Lake City. Utah.
I realize that this is entirely antedotal, but really what are the chances that about fifty people would start talking about how ridiculous mcsame is? In Salt Lake City. Did I mention Utah?
Interestingly enough the demographics in the waiting area were all white (me being the notable exception). Ages from the 20 somethings to retirement. I was truly amazed since I didn't expect folks to be so open about politics in a public place. Except...
While in CT. a couple of weeks before, I overheard a table of folks behind me, all of whom are social security age, rant about mcsame. This was the Saturday after the announcement of Palin and the laughter and derision of mcsame's choice warmed my heart.
Spent part of last week in Minnesota (arrived the day of mcsame's acceptance speech) and it was the same thing. Everywhere I went people were talking politics and favorably discussing Obama.
I thought for a brief moment that perhaps it was assumed I am an Obama supporter and thus it was safe. Dunno. Just know that there is something happening out there that the pundits and the polls might not be picking up on. Just wanted to add my voice to those who are saying "Keep Hope Alive!" Yes, we can.
