Secondary Title: While we weren't looking.
As they say in the news business, this Russia story has legs. What could be more evident than the news today that Russia had flown two Tupelev Bombers to Venzuela.
Here's a tid bit:
Venezuela throws out US ambassador as tensions soar
President Hugo Chavez has thrown out the US ambassador to Venezuela and threatened to cut off American oil supplies, further escalating tensions with Washington just two days after Russia sent strategic bombers to Caracas in a move unseen since the Cold War.
What's even more fitting is that it's on the Times Online in the UK. It's also on Commondreams.org but nowhere to be found on any Main Stream Media sites after a quick perusal of Google. If you're not sure why this is important then you should read the article but it does have an overriding theme: OIL.
Mr Chavez also threatened to cut halt exports of crude oil to the United States if it displayed any aggression towards Venezuela. Despite years of tensions between the two countries Venezuela continues to be one of the United States’ main overseas oil suppliers.
Apparently there has been a flurry of diplomatic activity:
President Hugo Chavez has thrown out the US ambassador to Venezuela and threatened to cut off American oil supplies, further escalating tensions with Washington just two days after Russia sent strategic bombers to Caracas in a move unseen since the Cold War.
The US responded in kind, immediately booting out the Venezuelan envoy despite a preemptive order from Caracas to fly out before Washington could have the satisfaction of ejecting him, and imposing sanctions on aides to Mr Chavez.
Pretty much what one would expect with this administration but it nevertheless should be explored in the upcoming debates, especially the vice presidential debates. It's not enough that we have a huge problem in the ME. We seem to be pushing to start another cold war and Russia is responding by reaching out to South American countries.
It seems like we should be talking about this as Palin's considerable experience with Russia seems to give her a leg up on Joe Biden ( snark). I'm sure secretary of state Rice is disappointed this is occurring so close to the end of her eight year run with all her expertise on Russia. We are seeing it up close and personal.
So what would the McCain/Plain ticket do here vs the Obama/Biden ticket. How will this deteriorating situation affect the emotion voter along with the rest of us more rational and logical "folks?.
I wonder if attacking Palin by wrapping the fist up with this story would be more effective because if we let this election slip we are going to run out of bombs quick.
