So the question in my mind is, “when does buyers remorse begin,” on Sarah Palin? Obviously most of us have not bought her schtick but some people have, and I am referring to them. Like a shiny new convertible sport car she makes Joe Biden’s oldsmobile seem like a stale transportation plan, but at some point the $5000 repairs and premium gasoline get to be an issue. Then when the first storm hits, and the top breaks through, or your kid wraps it around a pole, buyers remorse sets in.
The key question is: will this happen before or after the election? If it happens before, independents and Republicans may take a second look at Obama - Biden and give them a landslide victory. If the Republicans can obfuscate the issues enough it could be delayed and then the losses would be minimized or another ugly Republican victory could be an issue. This time however, even the Republicans would be looking for an alternative to having her become commander in chief when John McCain can no longer get by. Imagine a scenario when John is hospitalized for anger issues and Sarah Palin steps in and states that ‘Everything is under control! No, really! I have my finger on the button so the Soviets had better behave.”
Time to get to work fellow Democrats. The ground game will be key to making this work. If you have not talked about how wonderful Obama - Biden is and how you couldn’t ask for a better ticket to ten of your Republican / Independent friends yet, why haven’t you? Do you know where your Democratic Headquarters is in town? Have you been by recently? The bumper sticker is great but the conversation at the check stand with 10 people in line makes a bigger impact. (Especially if it is brief.)
Sit down and write out 27 words that make three points about Obama – Biden without referring to the competition and practice saying it. No desperation and no mention of the Rethugs. Make it special for you and say it over and over until everyone you know had heard it three times. If they ask about McCain - Palin, laugh and say, ‘Are you kidding? How can anyone take them seriously.’ At least that is what I would say. Feel free to use the comments as a practice page for your 27 words. Keep in mind we will be counting!
