Last week a bi-partisan panel of the Alaska legislature voted to subpoena Todd Palin -- the husband of Alaska Governor, GOP VP candidate and serial liar Sarah Palin -- to testify in an inquiry whether the Governor misused her power to try to force the firing of her ex-brother-in-law and firing the head of the state police when he refused.
Palin, in response to that and earlier, has been stonewalling the effort. She hired an attorney, tried to get the inquiry moved to a executive branch body she appointed, told all her staffers not to cooperate, and refused to produce e-mail she's written and received even though they cc'd non-governmental folks like, oh, her husband.
The fear among many of us is that the Republicans may stall the inquiry well enough to move any declarations of wrongdoing past the November election. The Wall Street Journal's Washington Wire, though, tells a different story.
But now, at least some witnesses are agreeing to testify. "They’re falling like dominoes," said one state lawmaker, a Democrat. A second lawmaker, a Republican, said he, too, understood witnesses in the probe are cooperating again.
This could be good, but are these people with nothing to add or folks in the center of the inquiry? The center!
On Sunday, Annette Kreitzer, Gov. Palin’s Commissioner of Administration, said in a telephone interview that she has agreed to testify, probably as soon as this coming week. "My understanding [is] it’s not just me, but everyone," Ms. Kreitzer said, clarifying that by "everyone" she meant the four witnesses who worked directly in her unit at the Department of Administration.
Nicki Neal, another witness named on the to-be-subpoena list, also agreed to speak to investigators without a subpoena.
That's two, and apparently both from Personnel. A search of the web (a "Google") produces -- unfortunately -- her home phone number and the fact on a PDF that Nicki Neal is the Senior Management Consultant for the Department of Administration Division of Personnel.
If the anonymous Dem and Rep above are right, this could be the start of some real information. Or Palin told people who don't know shit to start talking while the people with real information are held back.
What do you think it means?
