Religious nuts are praying for John McCain to win the presidency, and then die so Sarah Palin can bring "Dominionist" rule to the United States.
It's a mistake to think of the religious community, or even the religious right, as a single group. There are people who go to church regularly, and try to live a good life. There are people who want to impose their religious views on others. And then there are the wackos who see Palin as something of a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" who will send Christian armies to usher in the Apocalypse.
It is a little hard to find the links on the web. The people who are really out there in the Dominionist movement -- that is discredited even by the extreme religious right -- tend to talk in a special language that is hard for the uninitiated to understand.
One of the key words to use to find this stuff on search engines is "imprecatory." This is a special type of prayer, not "help me win the lottery" or "protect my family." This is more the "gouge out my sister's eyes and make her suffer for borrowing my dress" type of prayer.
In theory, it is only to be used against the enemies of God. But, who better to identify the enemies of God than the religious wackos?
Here is a link.
There are two schools of thought. The "moderates" want McCain to win and then they will pray that he adopt Palin's nutty religious views. They will give him a chance.
The ones who are really out there won't give McCain a chance, and just pray for his death, preferring not to mince words.
Do you really think they're capable of understanding that "specific imprecatory prayer" means "ask God to smite McCain's sorry ass?" I don't think so.
I'm sure you can find many similar links on the Internet.
Other than a curiosity, how does this matter?
For one, Palin is very far outside the mainstream. She is not a religious person so much as a member of a dangerous cult.
And, McCain picked this person to be vice president. That says a lot about his judgement.
