Looks like our Senator Lieberman has been off the job (once again), giving Sarah international tutoring from the Lieberman perspective.
I get this email today from JStreet
Dear J Street Member,
As I write, organizers are on the phone deciding whether Sarah Palin should headline Monday's rally in New York of Americans Jews concerned about the threat Iran poses to the United States and Israel.
Sarah Palin at a rally to unify American Jews on Iran? Really?
J Street is a little upset:
She doesn't represent the American Jewish community's views on Israel or any other issues.
* Sarah Palin does not have the experience or the credibility to offer any real solutions to the Iran issue. In the little time she has been in the national spotlight, she has instead advocated for right-wing views on Iran that would not keep Israel or the U.S. safe. She disagrees with the consensus of five former U.S. Secretaries of State that the best way to address the Iranian nuclear program and support for terror is through tough, smart U.S. led diplomacy, not just saber rattling and tough talk.
* Sarah Palin's views on abortion, the environment, and just about every other issue are out of step with the American Jewish community.
* Sarah Palin's church had a speaker from Jews for Jesus come to speak as recently as a month ago.
Well, apparently Hilary Clinton, who is more knowledgeable about these matters, was planning to attend. Nobody told her about Sarah being there, and things got very testy:
Organizers had said Tuesday that both Clinton, who nearly won the Democratic nomination for president, and Palin, Republican candidate John McCain's running mate, were expected to attend.
That would have set up a closely scrutinized and potentially explosive pairing in the midst of a presidential campaign, one in which the New York senator is campaigning for Democratic nominee Barack Obama while Palin actively courts disappointed Clinton supporters.
Clinton aides were furious. They first learned of the plan to have both Clinton and Palin appear when informed by reporters.
"Her attendance was news to us, and this was never billed to us as a partisan political event," said Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines. "Sen. Clinton will therefore not be attending."
Some people are classy, and others are totally, socially inept. Thank you, Hilary, for taking the upper hand.
