I am sorry, but this will be a short diary.
On MSNBC, Norah O'Donnell right now, two references were made to Biden's supposedly saying that it's patriotic to raise taxes.
She just did it again.

Biden said it's patriotic to PAY taxes. It's always good to pay your taxes. Sometimes wealthy people have to contribute to a society they use for their own benefit, and a society that has contributed to their well-being.

What in the world is the matter with that?  If you don't pay your taxes, are you being patriotic???!!! If you have to pay a bit more, if you're making $250,000 or more, aren't you talking about the ethics of being an American? Aren't you talking about what your responsibility is to your country?
Where I come from, that's patriotism.
If kids can give their lives for their country, you can make a contribution through paying taxes.
Supply-side hasn't worked. If we lower taxes on the rich, when our country is in the shape it's in, we don't "encourage more job creation." We make it possible for corporations to send jobs overseas.

We have now lived under Milton Friedman's supply-side economic theory for the past eight years of Bush, plus the elder Bush and Reagan. Has it helped?

I think not.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
