In June of 2006 I did this post about Roosevelt's 1942 tax proposal.
Given the back and forth regarding Biden's statement that it would be patriotic for wealthy Americans to chip in more to help our nation in its time of need - maybe someone should point out what Roosevelt, a real "War Time President," proposed when our nation also faced huge problems.
Includes audio link to Edward R. Murrow's report from England where he said the UK citizens were excited to know, based on the tax proposal, that Americans were serious about the war.
As part of a larger package, I have a feeling Roosevelt knew it would not pass - today it would drive conservatives off the deep end - but he also likely knew the affect just proposing it would have on our friends from across the pond. Which, based on Murrow's report, it did. Maybe something similar would let the world know we are serious today.
scroll down to the bold for the gist of it.
