There are many corrupt GOP officials at the national level, in fact I would venture to say most or even all national GOP figures are corrupt.
At the local level, though, there are some GOP officials who are still (relatively) uncorrupted. Washington state Attorney General Rob McKenna is one of those: he just filed suit against two conservative lobbying groups who were dishonestly raising money for the GOP gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi.
According to local TV station KOMO:
Attorney General Rob McKenna took legal action Friday against two builders' groups accused of breaking state campaign finance laws.
The two fundraisers accused were the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties and the Building Industry Association of Washington, both of whom contribute money entirely to Republicans.
According to the same news source, BIAW was improperly concealing its role in bundling about $585,000 in workers compensation refunds for donation to the BIAW's political arm, and the King and Snohomish Master Builders received and spent about $412,000 on polls, campaign contributions and political research without reporting the money's source.
Mr. McKenna's decision followed a unanimous decision by the state Public Disclosure Commission, an office of the state government which governs campaign finance. According to BIAW Vice President Tom McCabe, the PDC's ruling was "unprecedented, convoluted and grossly unfair." The practice of routing political donations through another entity was done for tax purposes, he said. Money laundering was not the SOLE purpose (my observation).
I haven't seen this diaried yet, and I'll be updating the diary as details manifest.
