A federal judge delivered a 21 page opinion today forcing the VP to keep many of his records during his term as Vice President.
This suit stems from the whole situation where Cheney basically tried to pretend that the Vice Presidents office was not part of the Executive branch or the legislative branch.
This then set into action this suit to make sure records were not destroyed because Cheney thought he was god and could do as he wished...
Here is the actual opinion
The decision by U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly is a setback for the Bush administration in its effort to promote a narrow definition of materials that must be safeguarded under by the Presidential Records Act.
The Bush administration's legal position "heightens the court's concern" that some records may not be preserved, said the judge.
A private group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, is suing Cheney and the Executive Office of the President in an effort to ensure that no presidential records are destroyed or handled in a way that makes them unavailable to the public.
The judge said she felt he was forced to do make this decision becase the Bush administrartion kept balking at the terms of deal that they were trying to work out. As Always not much of a surprise for the likes of Bush and Cheney.
UPDATE: Many of you have said this will not do anything and this may be true.. However at least its a step in the right direction.
Its also another day of bad press for republicans where maybe McCain is forced to address this instead of getting to talk about policy and things like that...
So basically how I look at it, this judgement cant hurt...
