I'm almost certain that Barack Obama will be the 44th president. Yet this prediction still fails to make me happy.
The reality of the situation is that Obama's hands will be absolutely tied with the mess he will inherit from the retard president. Just unwinding the last eight years of this utter stupidity is going to take far more than four years. A generation or two seems like a safer bet.
With the credit crisis in full swing and the debilitating bailout in the works, the next president will have absolutely no funds and no power to introduce any meaningful spending programs.
All that talk of health care for every American? Forget it, it's not going to happen. Brave new energy 'Manhattan Project'? Not a dime left for it. Better schools and roads? Nobody's gonna find any cash to do that either.
The feeling I get is that the Republicans know at this stage that it's game over for them as far as their electoral chances go. They're now fully onto the stealing and looting stage. The more debt and burden the next president is burdened with the better it is for them - economically as well as politically. Their base, after all, has been served rather well over the past eight years.
Obama taking office with not just empty coffers but also all credit cards maxed out is going to become a lame duck president from the day he's sworn in. Little sympathy will be spared for him as every mistake will be amplified by the fascist media and the inevitable final collapse of the house of cards that the American economy has become will be blamed squarely on the new 'inexperienced' president. Obama may become the most tragic figure in American politics since the days of Jimmy Carter.
Regardless of grand plans and proposals, the next four years will not be the time of great big things happening in America. It will be a time of belt tightening and hunkering down in order to stay afloat - assuming that it's actually possible.
Does this mean I want Obama to lose? No fucking way. Does it mean I want McCain to run things and continue Bush's insanity? Hell no. But I worry that our next president will become the biggest scapegoat in political history and I don't like the thought.
