We must stand up and tail Congress that we need more information before they act to spend billions of dollars we don't have. If you agree with me please help me get the word out by sending this link to everyone you know. Our nation is depending on our action!
Over the last several days I have been watching in horror (but not shock) as our economy implodes and have become more and more concerned. So, I finally felt I had no choice but to create a video to express my opinion. There is no doubt that there are many treacherous days ahead of us regardless of what stop gap measures Congress employs because I firmly believe that we have not seen the bottom of this market yet.
I am not an economist but I am a pretty shrewd observer and I always attempt to employ common sense solutions to difficult problems. I am watching our government make decisions about the economy based upon only a handful of (certainly learned) opinions and I am watching in horror as they consider employing a path that I believe, at least on its face, is going to bankrupt our country. I believe that whatever the decision may be (and I am certain that much of what Secretary Paulson is suggesting can work at least in the near term) we as a nation should be part of the discourse and that the decision to expend trillions of dollars should not be one made in less then 72 hours. So I have taped this video to raise my voice to say wait a second, slow down we need to consider this further before we jump off the cliff.
This decision must be made with input from all of us. We must express our opinions to our Senators and Congressmen so that they know what the Will of the people is. Some of you will surely disagree with my opinion on how to use the stimulus money but don't let that sidetrack you from my overall message which is something I've learned along the way as an Emergency Planner:
Never make an irreversible decision without having situational awareness. Verify the facts first, take an extra few minutes to ensure that you have all of the information you need i.e., what is the nature of the event? how long in duration do you anticipate it will last? What is the appropriate response to the threat? How will that response impact both those involved in the emergency and those who are not? What resources (personnel, equipment, technology) do we have to address the threat? What are the logistics necessary to efficiently and effectively respond to the threat? What are the long term implications of this plan? How will we mitigate the effects of both the event itself and the impact of the response to the event? What are my options? What is the plan? When you respond to an emergency you better have these questions answered before you respond or you just may end up with more victims then the initial emergency generated.
All of you who know me well no that I am not one to mince words and I am a fairly strong risk taker but I certainly heavily weighed the decision to make this video and to use my real name, but in the end I felt that as a Citizen I had to stand up and be counted. Won't you join in with me?
If my opinion makes sense to you please help me distribute it to all of your friends and family. We have so little time.
I apologize in advance for the quality of the video it's my first ever You Tube. Also, the ppvoices is my brand new blog. Register, comment and check back often as this is our first week and we haven't had a lot of time to post substance but we will in the future. Thanks for taking the time to live inside my head. God Bless Our Nation.
