Let's have a spoonful, a BIG spoonful of optimism, about the outcome of this election! Time to buzz up the campaign everywhere. We had dinner last night with friends, all Democrats, and the amount of worrying and negativism was troublesome to me. Yes it will be close. Yes we have to work hard. But the more we doubt, the less effective we are. I truly believe that there is such a thing as momentum, that it is psychological and viral, and every time we allow ourselves to sink into negativity, that spreads like ripples to our friends and colleagues.
Is that stupidly naive? Or is there something to the collective mind? Democrats are subject to bouts of depression. It happened with Gore, with Kerry, with Clinton. You can see posts everywhere predicting doom and gloom. But get down with the local campaigns and you will see a completely different story. Check out the road trip on www.fivethirtyeight.com. Can't help from making you feel good about what's happening everywhere.
