Since 9/11, you have given two shits less about the working class or the middle class of this country. The one shit you gave was when you raised minimum wage, but you only did this after Senator Ted Kennedy blew a gasket and reminded you of, chastised you about, and shamed you over the number of raises you have given yourselves; the other shit, oh, it's so small I've forgotten what it was. Since 9/11 you've spent our money, and our children's money, and our grandchildren's money like someone addicted to and mesmerized by the cheap bling hocked on the Home Shopping Network.
I wish I could honestly say that you've spent our money on fixing faltering bridges before they collapse (sorry Minnesota), or that you strengthened poorly built levees before a hurricaine came along and wiped out people's homes (sorry Louisiana). I wish I could congratulate you on spending our money on preparing our nation for weather disasters like Ike and Katrina. Or preparing Medicare for the changing demographics of our once great nation. Or providing more financial grants to college students who some day will inherit the mistakes made by your fucking stupidity. I wish I could honestly say that you've spent our money weening this nation from the soon-to-be-felt ravishes of our petrolium addiction by focusing research on renewable, carbon-neutral energy, or passing laws that might require a wee bit more gas mileage from our vehicles so that we harm the environment less. I wish I could say that you spent our money on building mutually benefical relations with foreign countries in regions of the world that have always been suspicious of our motives.
Instead, you and the Bush White House have allowed the wealthy of this country to run amuck. And oh how they have: Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. All of them slain giants by their own unbridled greed aided-and-abetted by your own idiotic deregulation laws (thanks John McCain). Washington Mutual and Wachovia are next. You and Bush have called it fiscal conservatism, but it's proven to be fiscal irresponsiblity. The Bush White House has repeatedly slandered the idea of a "big government" and of "big spending" and you have poorly countered this garbage. Time and time again in recent years, you have taken a little money out of my wallet to blow up a country that did nothing to us; and, you and the Bush White House marketed this crap as providing us with some homeland security (the White House liked that term so much that it created a department by that same name which, while screwing us out of our constitutional rights, has also cost us a lot of money). But mostly, unpatriotically, you've made future generations pay for the war in Iraq by borrowing money to blow it up. By far we spend more money (and more of a percentage of our earnings) on our military budget than any other country, yet you and the White House have shown such little diplomatic acumen. Your borrowed-money spending spree is what I mean when I say you give two shits less about the working class and middle class of this country. It's you flipping a middle finger to the future generations of America.
And now, you want this generation and future generations of Americans to give hundreds of billions of dollars to a few greedy people who have, unpatriotically, grabbed all the money they can, created fake wealth and gambled with it while personally having enormous amounts of real wealth--the kind of real wealth future generations of Americans will not be able to attain because of your fiscal irresponsibility. Talk about big spending and big government!
To entertain the huge smash-and-grab robbery of the masses for the elite (which is what the Bush administration is counting on you to do with his so-called bank bailout scheme) really, really shows you don't care about the people you represent. And if you really, really want less government, tender your resignations today. We, the people, will happily replace you with people who care about our government and its people.
