Apparently, John McCain wants to "suspend" his campaign to work on the economic crisis. He even wants to cancel the first presidential debate scheduled for this Friday.
McCain Asks To Postpone Friday Debate Due To Economic Crisis
Interesting. McCain doesn't really need to "suspend" anything to go back to Washington and do his job. In fact, while campaigning, Barack Obama has managed to show real leadership during this crisis, lay out an economic plan outline, work behind the scenes with leaders in Congress, and still continue to campaign as a presidential candidate.
So why does Mccain think it's necessary to "suspend" his campaign? Let's take a quick look at the series of events that lead up to this unexpected panic from John McCain:
HISTORY OF THE CRISIS:
For 26 years, John McCain pushed for deregulation which is now blamed for the crisis
1989 - Keating Five Scandal - John McCain involved in banking corruption scandal
1995 - Senator McCain supported a suspension of ALL new federal regulation
1999 - McCain supports deregulation bill written by Senator Gramm, McCain's economic advisor
Jan 2007 to Aug 2008 - McCain missed 401 of 632 votes in Congress while campaigning
May 30, 2008 - Collapse of Bear Stearns causes shock on Wall Street... campaigns continue as usual
Sep 13-15, 2008 - Lehman Brothers declares bankruptcy, Bank of America buys Merrill Lynch, AIG in trouble, market panic begins

CONCLUSION:
During this time of crisis, we have the chance to see exactly how the two presidential candidates would respond if they were president. John McCain has stumbled, blamed everyone else, been caught lying repeatedly, and is now asking "to be excused" from the scheduled debate. Barack Obama has kept his cool, provided strong leadership, worked bipartisanly to resolve the problem, and has not waivered. During this critical time in our history, we need a true leader to guide us through the difficult problems we face as a nation. And the president we elect will get no "time outs".
