(Expansion of a Comment of mine in Morning Pundit Roundup).
So McCain's going to "suspend" his campaign (Read: the ads aren't working), return to D.C. (Read: run home to Mommy Washington and hide 'neath her apron), and has called on Barack Obama to "postpone" Friday night's debate (Read: ask for a "Mulligan" since he, McCain, knows he's in over his debating head).
When I first heard about McCain's tawdry, transparent, "Hail Mary" pass to make himself look Leadershipful (and get out of taking the "test" that he forgot to study for), my immediate thought was, "Are Americans going to fall for this patently pitiful bullshit?" Well, it looks (so far...) like the answer is, "No." Whew.
It appears that the public and even the blathering heads were NOT fooled by McCain's Mavericky cowardice in running away from the debate (using Paulson/Bush's chicken-little behavior as an excuse).
Below the fold . . .
Or maybe Americans "get" the concept of (and aphorism about) "robbing Peter to pay Paul" better than the Lords of Stupid do in the Republican Hierarchy -- let's see, let's see . . . several investment banks could lose 10s or 100s of Billions of $$$ on dumbshit investments and tulip-bulb speculation and this would have a negative impact on our economy, or . . . the U.S. treasury (i.e., all Americans) could mortgage its ass (even further) to the Chinese government to the tune of $700 billion, save the Wall Street dumbasses and . . . "save" our economy??? I'm not gettin' that. I'm not buyin' that. And it seems that neither is the American Public.
And John McCain, joining-in the chorus as Chief Boy-Crying-Wolf, is looking more and more like a well-past-his-prime carnival side-show barker, trying in vein to lure one last season's worth of gullible teens into the tent to see the Amazing Bearded Lady swallow the 3-Headed Cat. And he just looks pitiful.
Courtesy of Markos' Front Pager last night (wherein he reports on a SUSA Snap Poll), we find this regarding McCain's latest gimmick pitiful joke on America, and Americans' reaction to it:
The first debate between John McCain and Barack Obama is scheduled to take place in two days. Should the debate be held as scheduled? Should the debate be held, but the format changed to focus on the economy? Or, should the debate be postponed?
Hold as scheduled 50
Hold with focus on economy 36
Postpone 10
Is the right response to the turmoil on Wall Street to suspend the campaigns for president? To continue the campaigns as though there is no crisis? Or, to re-focus the campaigns with a unique emphasis on the turmoil on Wall Street?
Suspend 14
Continue 31
Refocus the campaign 48
If Friday's presidential debate does not take place, would that be good for America? Bad for America? Or would it make no difference?
Good for America 14
Bad for America 46
No difference 35
.
It appears that a solid majority, or at least plurality, of Americans will not buy into McCain's excuse for his "running away action". And, if that's the case, then it only means that the voting public will conclude that McCain's tank's run dry and that he's asking for a hand to push, pull or drag the Straight Talk Express Weinermobile across the Finish Line. And he just looks so. very. pitiful. trying to do it.
All Obama and Biden have to do is continue looking so very adult-like compared to those on the other side who are all wrapped-up in a Romper Room crayon and Silly Putty fight. Little Johnny and Sarah so need their naps.
