The fallout from this whole bailout mess could, and probably will, determine the next president. How the public perceives the responses of the two candidates will, at the end of the day, probably make the difference.
Now, we all know that McCain's "suspension" of his campaign is the most shameless of political gimmicks that has nothing to do with trying to put country first and get a sensible bailout passed. Hell, according to the recent polls, most Americans see through McGimmicky's bullshit. So why the HELL is Bill Clinton spewing McDesperate's talking points and helping McSleazy frame this gimmick as an honest, heroic effort to save the country?
Asked about McInsane's political gimmick, Clinton responds:
"I presume he did that in good faith since I know he wanted — I remember he asked for more debates to go all around the country and so I don't think we ought to overly parse that," Clinton said, sounding a familiar McCain Campaign talking point.
This just burns me up. Not only does he say McCain acted in good faith to try to save the country (seriously, wtf?), he parrots McCain's tiresome kneejerk response anytime he is questioned about the tenor or tactics of his campaign ("Senator McSame, your campaign is running ads that are, shall we say, misleading. What do you have to say?" "My friend, I challenged Senator Obama to townhall debates, blah, blah, blah." [Or, last night with Katie Couric:]
Couric: Sen. Obama said, when he spoke to the press earlier today, he said, "With regard to debates it's my belief is that this is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who, in approximately 40 days, will be responsible for dealing with this mess."
McCain: Well, you know, it's funny because I asked Sen. Obama months ago to go to town - hold town hall meetings around the country. I said, "I'll fly," well, "I'll ...co-provide the airplane." I asked him to go to town hall meetings every other day to ... the cities around America, and he refused.
He refused to do that. Although I've repeated, and still request that he would do that. So it's interesting that, somehow, that he wouldn't engage in town hall meetings and discussions with ... me with the American people.
)
Chris Rock was right. Bill can't even say Obama's name. Yet he has no problem parroting McCain talking points.
Disgusting. One of, if not the most, talented politicians of our time cares more about his ego or 2012 to do the right thing and help our country, in this critical time, elect the right person.
