My administration continues to work with Congress on a rescue plan. The reason is that we have a big problem; need to move quickly. Anytime you have a plan this big, moving this quickly, it creates challenges. Members want to be heard, express opinions, and they should be allowed. there are disagreements over aspects of the plan, but no disagreement that something substantial should be done. The legislative process is sometimes not very pretty, but we will get a package passed, will rise to the occasion, we will come together to pass a substantial plan.
P.S. Thanks to xysea who wasted her daily diary to "liveblog" this ridiculous non-event.
I would do some analysis, but...there's nothing to analyze.
Just contemplate this. Herbert Hoover had a better understanding of the American economy. Hoover once wrote: "Economic depression cannot be cured by legislative action or executive pronouncement. Economic wounds must be healed by the action of the cells of the economic body - the producers and consumers themselves." Hell, that's almost fucking scientific.
Bush's statement took less than 30 seconds to deliver, probably caused the Dow to tank a 100 points and millions of people to throw things at their television.
I can only pose a Socratic question:
Was this intended to solidify his legacy?
I'll spend 30 seconds thinking about that. The rest of you can go watch your 401k evaporate or go giggle at the non-sensical gibberish of Sarah Palin on the You Tubes.
