With every minute, Johnny Mac is cracking. A few points that struck me below the fold:
BHO is hitting hard, but could do more. When the question came up about funding our troops, he should have mentioned that McCain decided to have a fundraiser while not voting on the GI Bill. That line right there would insure that point would always go his way. When earmarks were brought up by McCain, Obama should have brought up Sarah Palin's record of the most earmarks for a single state per capita.
However, it won't matter. John McCain seems completely incapable of formalizing a single thought. He's just coming out from every direction, however not changing what he's saying. Every question that was directed to him in reagard to the economy, he grows a boner over cutting spending. Over and over and over again, he says he going to "Cut Spending", but hasn't made one reference to what spending he would cut. Its unbelievable, to look at an angry man, on top of what has the perception of a soapbox, screaming "SMALL GOVERNMENT, SMALL GOVERNMENT!!!!!"
This debate has been ripe with gaffes. McCain will be very dissapointed to find out that his adviser, Henry Kissinger, has in fact stated that he would meet with the leader of Iran (might need to check the pronunciation), without pre-conditions, and not only that, had a conversation with McCain's VP candidate no more than 2 days ago. She even answered questions about the conversation with Couric.
As a last point (for now), the American people will really notice the rigidness and snide body language Senator McCain demonstrated tonight when back into a corner.
UPDATE:I haven't seen this line being brought up in the MSM. Maybe it'll take them a day to see it, we all know they are the epidomy of due deligence.
OBAMA:No. 3, we've got to deal with Pakistan, because al Qaeda and the Taliban have safe havens in Pakistan, across the border in the northwest regions, and although, you know, under George Bush, with the support of Senator McCain, we've been giving them $10 billion over the last seven years, they have not done what needs to be done to get rid of those safe havens.
And until we do, Americans here at home are not going to be safe.
LEHRER: Afghanistan, Senator McCain?
MCCAIN: First of all, I won't repeat the mistake that I regret enormously, and that is, after we were able to help the Afghan freedom fighters and drive the Russians out of Afghanistan, we basically washed our hands of the region.
And the result over time was the Taliban, al Qaeda, and a lot of the difficulties we are facing today. So we can't ignore those lessons of history.
Now, on this issue of aiding Pakistan, if you're going to aim a gun at somebody, George Shultz, our great secretary of state, told me once, you'd better be prepared to pull the trigger.
I'm not prepared at this time to cut off aid to Pakistan. So I'm not prepared to threaten it, as Senator Obama apparently wants to do, as he has said that he would announce military strikes into Pakistan.
So since there is clear evidence that the Taliban and Al Qaeda have moved some operation to Pakistan, does that mean that John McCain is in favor of continuing to send aid to a country that harbors terrorism?
